“What is one area of your life that you believe you could improve on?”

I am thankful for the opportunity to have learned from Gina Greco, who is Portfolio MasterClass’ Executive Director. From this webinar, I learned the why and the how of creating a personal brand, and I understood the importance of your personal branding as you progress in your career journey.

I hope to share those findings with you today and hopefully give you some inspiration on how you can improve your personal branding.

Showcasing a professional and minimalistic website can change the way you could potentially fit in with the company that you are applying for. Embrace becoming more aware of how your work, and especially your portfolio, could be improved from being playful to instead showcasing a more elegant and sophisticated side. Think about how your portfolio could ideally display your best work and about how it can be a blank canvas, and become a place where you display only your favorite achievements. Similar to having a wall with your favorite posters, you can improve your portfolio to the point that you only display case studies that you are the most proud of based on the feedback you have received.

Remember the work that you produce is a direct reflection of who you are and what you value. Always distinguish your portfolio from other people’s portfolios, find out what makes you unique, and expand on that niche.

Think about showcasing a portfolio that is aligned with the company’s values so that employers can rest assured that you are the best fit for the role.

During the event, I was very interested in listening to what Gina had to say about personal branding and creating the portfolio. She had insightful advice on how to choose your best work, and only showcase work that you are proud to display.

Specifically, one of the biggest takeaways is the importance of doing work to the best of your ability. I realized that if you give 100% to everything that you do, and you focus on doing a couple of things well and to the best that you can, it’s more sustainable and you can do more throughout your career journey while still creating and showcasing work that you consider a success.

I will take these design and marketing skills with me, and I will continue to implement them as I move forward in my career journey!
